Have you ever heard of an unofficial division of Poland? I mean about a distinction which is rather popular and well-known in Poland: Poland A and Poland B.

These 2 regions differ in the level of economic development. Poland A is half of Poland which is better economically advanced and grows more rapidly. Poland B is less developed and is structurally weak in general. Obviously, this theory did not come out of nowhere. It owns its beginning in Polish history. The genesis is found in times of the partitions, when lands annexed by Prussia were much more developed than lands annexed by Austria and Russia.

The positive news is that the Polish authorities initiate different moves to cut down mentioned differences and raise chances for speedy development of Poland B. For example, in 2007, the Operational Programme called “Development of Eastern Poland” were adopted. Funds from established program are supposted to support and accelerate development of Poland B.
